Mindy McCready
Well, something worth writing (and writing passionately) about has presented itself in the form of tragic country singer Mindy McCready. The gorgeous, blonde McCready, 28, who had her biggest hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All The Time", reportedly attempted suicide last Friday (she's since been released from the hospital). She was discovered in the lobby of a Holiday Inn near Tampa, Florida, and had consumed a large quantity of alcohol and had taken large amounts of two different unspecified substances. McCready was convicted last year of fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin, so it's a good bet that that was one of the substances. A walking, talking piece of shit named William McKnight was with her, and provided police with a four-page suicide note he said McCready had written. McKnight, 38, is an "aspiring country singer" who described himself to police as McCready's fiance. Excuse me while I go barf.
This would be the same William McKnight who has been charged in Nashville with attempted criminal homicide and aggravated burglary for attacking McCready at her home in May. McCready had apparently tried to end the relationship, and McKnight tailed her to her home, entered through the open garage door while she was pulling her car in, and punched her repeatedly in the face (while saying something about how she wasn't going to "make a fool out of him by seeing other men"), then choked her until she nearly lost consciousness, pummeled her some more, and finally dragged her down a flight of stairs by her hair. McKnight posted $130,000 bail, and the two have since reconciled. Excuse me while I go cry for a while.
It's difficult to know what to feel in a case like this. McKnight should clearly be taken out and shot (I'd volunteer to do it), but I would just have to ask of McCready, "After a guy stalks you, beats the living shit out of you, chokes you unconscious and then drags you down a flight of stairs by the hair, what is there that he could say to you that would convince you to get back together with him?" Sad as it is to say, it was probably something like this (said with tears in his eyes, probably): "I'm so sorry, honey-baby. I just need you so much that I couldn't stand the thought of losing you. I promise I'll never, ever do it again. I only did it, sweet-cheeks, because I care for you so deeply and I love you so much that it makes me crazy." or some other line of bullshit that women with low self-esteem are only too willing to believe.
Fact: men who physically abuse almost always start out as verbal/emotional/psychological abusers. When she first started dating him, she was probably telling her friends and family that she "feels like she can be herself" with him or that she "understands herself better when she's with him." Give me a break. You only feel that way, Mindy, it only feels so "in tune" to you, because he treats you the way you feel about yourself deep down inside, and the way that, on some level, you feel you deserve to be treated. You feel like shit inside, and that's exactly how he treats you. People who truly love you, Mindy, DO NOT TRY TO KILL YOU!
Come on, Mindy. Wake up. You're young, beautiful, and talented. You should have the whole world at your feet. There are plenty of nice guys out there who would honestly love you and treat you the way you truly do deserve to be treated - Dean Cain, for instance. What was wrong with him? The biggest thing I feel is sorrow. Why do some women stay with abusive assholes? I'd like to think you'll be looking for a new boyfriend, Mindy, but you probably won't be. You'll probably still marry this fucking scumbag. Maybe you can go see him in prison after he's convicted of trying to kill you.
If you change your mind, look me up....
Cheers!
